St. John's Will be Getting New ELCA Hymnals
As reported in last month’s newsletter, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
has developed a new hymnal for the church. The new hymnal is called
EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN WORSHIP or the ELW. It is a collection of hymns from
Lutheran church bodies all across the country and the Caribbean.
The Worship and Music Committee has agreed that we need to embrace the
change and begin buying new hymnals this summer to go into the pews beginning
this fall. So, beginning in June, members of the Worship and Music Committee will
have a table set up in the Narthex to display the new hymnal for you to look at so
that we can begin take orders for them throughout the summer.
We do not have money in the budget for 2007 to purchase new hymnals, so we are
asking each member family to purchase as many hymnals as your family need in
worship and to purchase them over the summer. Then beginning this fall we will
replace the old hymnals and begin teaching the congregation how to use the new
liturgies in the new hymnal.
