Children & Youth Ministry

There is a lot going on at St. Johns with children and youth. We have so many opportunities for your kids and you to be involved: St. John’s Sunday School, Confirmation, Bennington Youth Group (BYG’s), and more. We here at St. Johns know and trust that God is at work in our ministries that it is good and right to have kids in church and involved in the community. We invite you to anything going on please feel free to drop in on us at any time and ask about what is going on at St. John’s.

St. John’s Sunday school

Sunday School is held September thru May from 9:45 am to 10:45 am downstairs for children Three Years Old (who are potty trained) thru Sixth Graders.  Fifth and Sixth Graders meet at the Light House and use Kingdom Quest curriculum.  The curriculum Three Year Olds-Fourth Graders use is “Whirl” from Augsburg Fortress.  It is a lectionary based curriculum, so the children learn about the seasons of the church calendar and the same scriptures that are read in the church service.  Students start off the morning in their age specific classroom, see a short video, spend time in large group, and then finish the time back in their classroom.  Every Sunday they come home with a pamphlet letting the parents know what they learned and some activities the whole family can do together.

Confirmation

Our Confirmation program is very interactive and fun. It starts in 6th grade and goes in to the begining of their 9th grade year. The curriculum is from Faith Inkubators, it is called Head to Heart. The main premise of the curriculum is to connect youth with one another and with caring adults and parents who show them what their faith is. We span topics like the Old Testament to the New Testament and Luther to current cultural trends.

BYG’s

BYG’s is the youth group of the church. The youth meet together twice a month to do bible study and to connect with each other. Once a month they help serve and participate in worship activities. As a part of this group we take trips during the year and have fun while learning about being a Christian in the world.
