5 REASONS TO RUN:
1. Health Benefits:
There is conclusive proof that running improves your health. It strengthens the heart and ensures efficient blood and oxygen flow throughout the body. Running improves your immune system so your body functions are more effective and efficient at fighting off germs.
2. Weight Loss:
It's as great way to get into shape and knock off those extra pounds! Running burns approximately double the number of calories that walking does in the same amount of time. And who isn't crunched for time?
3. Run for a Cause:
Many races benefit organizations that do so much good around the world. Running for something that is bigger than you is a great way to stay motivated to keep training and can make your races even more significant and rewarding.
4. Meet New People:
While there are some folks who like to exercise on their own, running is a great way to form new friendships and stay motivated.
5. Inexpensive and Flexible:
All you have to do is put on a good pair of shoes and head out the front door!
Recommended clothes and gear:
* Most importantly, make sure you have a good pair of cushioned running shoes. Injuries are common from running and good comfortable shoes are key to prevention.
* Clothing - it really depends on the weather, but comfort is key. Make sure you have track pants or shorts and a t-shirt and maybe a sweatshirt. Ladies also need a good supportive sports bra.
* If possible, carry along a small bottle of water because hydrating oneself while on a long walk or run is a good idea.
WHY RUN IN A GROUP?
1. Safety:
Running in a group is much safer than running alone because someone is there for you in case you get hurt or injured. Cars will slow down and give you the right of way, making running in a group much safer on the street.
2. Rectify your form:
With someone else watching you form and being there to spot you when you need it, you'll run more efficiently than if you were alone.
3. Motivation:
When in a group, individuals are not only more inclined to running because of social interaction, but also to put forth better effort. Every individual knows that other runners are counting on you being there, to help them, push them, and socialize. Members of running group support one another through long runs and cheer each other on during races.
4. Improved performance:
In a running group, your workouts may be more intense, but feel like they take less effort. People just run faster when they are running with others. Others in the group are encouraging you to run faster and harder, it is easier to take it to the next level. If you do more intense runs, like marathons or half marathons, that kind of work is so much easier with a group.
5. Socialize:
Being part of a running club provides a unique opportunity to benefit from the knowledge or more experienced runners and to socialize with a group that shares a common interest in running and good health. Many people have made food friends through a running club. Running in a group is also a good way to network and build your professional relationships.
6. Consistency:
If you are running solo, it is easy to roll over and go back to bed. People tend to stick to a routine if you know that people are waiting for you.
HAPPY RUNNING!
